New HF CEO Choi Jun-Woo Takes Office

Former Standing Commissioner Choi Jun-Woo of the Securities and Futures Commission under the Financial Services Commission will be inaugurated as the 8th HF CEO on February 5, 2021.

Since the incoming CEO joined the public service after passing the 35th Higher Civil Service Examination in 1992, he has held key positions in the field of financial and economic policies, such as Administration & HR Manager, Capital Markets Manager, Non-Bank Policy Officer, Chief of Financial Consumer Protection Bureau, and Standing Commissioner of the Securities and Futures Commission in the Financial Services Commission.

Having worked in such a wide range of positions, he has gained hands-on experience in policy formulation and implementation for home financing and financial consumer protection. In particular, this includes promoting Home Pension, developing jeonse and monthly rent funding support for youth, drafting the Financial Consumer Protection Act, overhauling the existing financing support system for low-income households, and lowering the maximum legal lending rate. As new CEO, he is bringing all of his experience, expertise, and extensive networks in the financial and economic fields to HF.

He is also known for his meticulous attention to detail, excellent policy formulation and execution, outstanding leadership, and a gentle and considerate manner for employees, garnering deep trust from those around him.

In addition, it is assessed that his in-depth understanding of the current goverment’s key financial policy goals, ‘inclusive finance,’ ‘innovation in the financial industry,’ and ‘financial stability,’makes him the right figure to lead HF, whose primary goal is promoting the public’s housing welfare and economic stability, to further develop and innovate itself into a reliable public-sector organization.

Graduating from Kyunggi High School, he studied international economics at Seoul National University and earned a master’s degree in economics at Georgetown University in the United States.
