KHFC shares “kimchi of love”

-  The handmade Korean staple brings a warm winter to less privileged neighbors  -

The Korea Housing Finance Corporation engaged in the “Sharing kimchi of love” volunteer activity on November 23, providing 6,000 kilograms of handmade kimchi to 400 low-income households such as those with children forced to skip meals.

Around 40 members of the Bogeumjari Volunteer Corps—KHFC’s volunteering club—gathered in the Macheon General Social Welfare Center in Macheon-dong, Seoul on the day. They prepared kimchi out of 6,000 kilograms of salted Chinese cabbages and delivered them to financially distressed families. Launched to help low-income families prepare for the winter season, the volunteering work has been carried out jointly by KHFC and Childfund Korea since 2009.

“Making kimchi was the very first thing that our ancestors would do to prepare for the winter season when vegetables were rarely available,” said KHFC President Seo Jongdae who joined the volunteer work. “I hope our less fortunate neighbors will have a warmer and healthier winter with the handmade kimchi that KHFC members prepared with love and support.”

KHFC will also push for a wide array of social contributions in the yearend season, including the “briquette delivery to one village of hope per company” and the “visit to the military.”
